If your friends and family ever get an off feeling about your boyfriend or girlfriend, you may want to take their advice. Judy Malinowski is a 33-year-old mother of two who is currently in the hospital getting treatment for fifth-degree burns after her ex-boyfriend doused her in petrol and lit her on fire.
Judy is suffering from burns on over 80 percent of her body after her former boyfriend, Michael Slager, burned her alive on August 2nd, 2015. Her ears and two of her fingers melted off in the fire and her trachea is so damaged that she can only speak in a whisper. She has spent the past 16 months in the hospital getting treatments for the life threatening event and was denied the chance to testify against her ex after he pleaded “no contest to aggravated arson.”
“I never knew that a human being could be so evil. He just stood there and did nothing,” said Judy in an interview with BNC4i. Slager claims that he lit his girlfriend on fire by accident when he was attempting to light his cigarette. His attorney also mentioned that Slager also suffered from severe burns when he tried to stop the flames. Slager’s father was also in court and said that his son “loves Judy.”
However, Judge Judy Lynch did not give Slager the benefit of the doubt. “There’s nothing to say to a person like you, Mr Slager. You really do seem like one of those people who have no soul,” said the Judge during the man’s sentencing. Slager was given 11 years in prison for his cruel crime.
Judy believes her ex-lover got off easy. Now, she wants to share her story as a warning for other people about the results of domestic violence. “She wants everyone to know, she’s keeps telling me mom, tell them verbal abuse is the start of physical abuse,” says Judy’s mother Bonnie Bowes.
“There were days I told myself I can’t live like this. No one should have to live like this. Because I was in so much pain,” says Judy.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help pay for Judy’s medical expenses. The campaign has already raised $16,000 since it was first started on December 11th, 2016. The page hopes to raise $100,000 to help pay for hospital bills and family expenses.
